GRASSY MOUNTAIN GOLD
A Paramount Gold Nevada project
A Paramount Gold Nevada project
The Grassy Mountain Gold Project (Grassy) is an advanced-stage gold development asset poised to become Oregon’s first modern gold mine. Located in Malheur County’s high desert region, approximately 22 miles south of Vale, it sits on a large 8,200-acre land package wholly owned by Paramount. With a high-grade underground deposit, robust infrastructure plans, and key permits already secured, Grassy represents a significant step forward in responsible resource development. Federal permits have been secured, and state permitting is in its final stages, positioning the project to for responsible, long-term gold production.
Permitting Update
Grassy Mountain – Permitting Progress
Grassy is advancing through a comprehensive state and federal permitting process led by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI). This process reflects nearly a decade of in-depth scientific studies across water, wildlife, air quality, cultural resources, and other key areas.
Federal Permitting
On January 29, 2026, the BLM signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for Grassy, marking the culmination of the federal environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) incorporates feedback received from the public comment period and reflects the BLM’s rigorous environmental, socio-economic, and alternative analysis to support responsible development on federal lands for the benefit of all stakeholders.
State Permitting
DOGAMI released the Draft Consolidated Permit Package on December 8, 2025. A public hearing was held on January 29, 2026, in Vale, Oregon, providing the community and stakeholders with an opportunity to submit comments on the draft permits through February 6, 2026. Following the close of the public comment period, DOGAMI is reviewing submissions and making any necessary revisions prior to issuing the Final Consolidated Permit Package.
The state permitting process continues under Oregon’s Chemical Process Mining Program, a first-of-its-kind regulatory framework for gold mining in the state. To learn more about the process, agency roles, or to review the draft permits, please visit our Permitting page.
